Content (4)

By default, all content created by Rochester Gamers Community (RGC), be it a page, blog post, review, or any other content, is set to only allow filtered HTML.

Filtered HTML allows for a higher level of security, ensuring content does not allow melisious coding or "backdoor" vulnerability to the RGC site. Note, however, that the filtered HTML does allow for a wide range of formatting and will grow as needed. Web page addresses and e-mail addresses turn into links automatically.

If you want to create content that requires an HTML tag that is currently not allowed, contact Siddy with your HTML request. If the HTML tag is found to be secure, it will be added to the acceptable filtered HTML list.

The current maximum size per upload is 2 MB.

The current maximum total size of all your uploads in your Album is currently 1000 MB.

First, the majority of the content on the site can only be added by a RGC voting member. These are people that pay an annual fee of $10 to help give RGC direction. In addition they get certain benefits, like being able to add content to the website.

If you are a voting member, you can add a game review, by going to the Game Reviews section (top link, Primary menu on right, or Navigation menu on left). From there you should see an Add child page link towards the bottom of the center, content section.

From here, give your review a Title (preferably the name of the game you are reviewing) and assign tags (Game Reviews and type of game genre are two good ones to start with). Next, write the review in the Body area and finally Save or Preview (then Save) your review.

How-To (5)

The RGC web site has two main areas of constant updates from the community.

The first area is the main RGC web site, commonly referred to as the "front pages". These include game reviews, polls, albums, interviews, and RGC event updates. To see what is new on the front pages, complete the following:

  1. Log in to RGC.
  2. Click Recent posts from the left most navigation list.
  3. All of the published front page content is listed. Any updates will be listed here.

The second area is the RGC forums. The forums contain ongoing conversations between RGC members such as sharing ideas, commenting on games, and so on. To see what is new in the forums, complete the following:

  1. Log in to RGC.
  2. Click Forums from the top most navigation bar.
  3. Click View new posts found at the top of the forums.
  4. A list of all the updated forum threads since your last visit are displayed.
  5. Alternatively, you could also click View active topics to see the most active discussions currently available in the forums.

All public events associated with Rochester Gamers Community must first be approved by the Board of Directors.

Once approved, the event can be added to the community calendar. Adding content to the calendar is a two step process.

To add an event, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Events Schedule found at top.
  2. Click Events > Add New Event found at top of the calendar.
  3. Enter the appropriate information into each form field.
  4. Enter the correct letters and numbers from the image into the text box. This small test serves as access restriction against malicious bots.
  5. Click Save.

IMPORTANT!

Your event has been added to the calendar, but will not be made public until you contact Jeff (Darkwind), informing him you have added a calendar event. Jeff will review your request, make any minor edits as necessary, and publish your event.

The best way to contact Jeff is by sending him a Private Message (PM) via the forum.

Have a game or group ready to play, but just need a few more people to fill out the ranks? Have a board game that you are dying to play, but need others to help fill out the ranks? Want to start a play-by-post game on the forums here?

Now you can.

Use the Looking For Players forum to find face-to-face and play-by-post players.

The forums of RGC have their own Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that should answer any and all of your questions regarding functions and features of the forum itself.

You can read the forum FAQ here.

If you should still have questions, please feel free to post your questions in the forum or contact the forum administrator (Darkwind) or the moderator (Siddy) for assistance.

Profile (2)

To be clear, you essentially have two profile pictures on the RGC Web site. The first is the overall RGC Web site profile. We'll call this the "main site" profile. The second is the forums "avatar".

When you created a login on the main site, you created a forum account, too. But because the account information is accessed different and stored in two different spots, you will need to make two different updates.

The upside to this is that you can update your profile and avatar images independently and whenever you like.

To upload or update your main site profile image, complete the following steps:

  1. Enter your login username and password for the main site.
  2. Click My account, found in navigation at left.
  3. Click Edit, found under your username.
  4. Scroll down until you see the "Picture" portion of the profile. This is where you will update or upload your profile picture. (see following image example)
  5. Click the Browse button and navigate to the profile image.
  6. Click the Save button at the bottom to save your changes.

To upload or update your forum avatar image, complete the following steps:

  1. Enter your login username and password for the main site.
  2. Click Forums, found in the navigation at top.
  3. Click User Control Panel, found towards the top of the forum.
  4. Click Profile, found in the Options menu at left.
  5. Click Edit avatar, also found in the Options menu at left. This is where you will update or upload your profile picture. (see following image example)
  6. Click the Browse button and navigate to the profile image.
  7. Click the Save button at the bottom to save your changes.

RGC maintains two separate profiles. The first is the main site profile. The second is the forums profile.

To edit your main site profile, complete the following steps:

  1. Click My account found in the navigation menu on the left.
  2. Click Edit located directly under username.
  3. Edit and or update your Account, Gaming Information, Online Contact Information, and Personal Information as required.
  4. Click Save when done.

To edit your forum profile, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Forums.
  2. Click User Control Panel.
  3. Click Profile.
  4. Edit and or update your forum profile, signature, avatar, and other account settings information as required.
  5. Click Submit.

RGC's membership is split into two types of membership: General Membership and Voting Membership. Both are explained below.

General Membership

General membership is open to anyone that has some form of interest in gaming. Becoming a general member is easy, simply participate in our events on a regular basis. It also would not hurt to join our forums. There is no fee for general membership and we regularly ask for feedback from our total membership. General members may participate in any discussions and attend any meetings that pertain to RGC. General members are not able to vote on issues that directly affect RGC and its future direction. General members have no additional benefits beyond active participation within RGC.

Voting Membership

Voting members are those members that have decided they want to offer direct input into the future direction of RGC as an organization. Voting members not only participate in discussions and attend official meetings, they also have the benefit of voting on all issues involving the future direction of RGC; including who manages the day-to-day operations of RGC on the Board of Directors. Voting members pay an annual voting membership fee of $10.

Voting members are RGC members that have decided to pay an annual fee of $10 to help fund the events and projects that are planned during the year.

To become a voting member all you need to do is pay your $10 annual fee to any of the Board of Director members.

There are several benefits to being a voting member, beyond the satisfaction of helping keep Rochester Gamers Community growing and functional.

We truly appreciate each person that helps to fund the events and projects that RGC works towards every year. To show our appreciation, we have arranged for the following benefits:

Discounts and Specials:

  • Games By James - 10%
  • Covenant Games - 30% (20% for special orders) - http://www.covenantgames.com/rgc.htm
Non-voting members can still get a 10% discount from Convenant Games.
  • Gamer's Renion - Pre-reg prices at the door.

Forum Benefits:

  • Increased size of PM Inbox to 150 messages.
  • Can disable word censor.
  • Can save drafts of posts and PMs and come back to them later.
  • Voting Members can attach files to posts and PMs.
  • Voting member color for username.
  • A private forum is available just for voting members.

Website Benefits:

  • Only voting members can create content for the website.
  • Ability to create your own photo albums
  • Voting members have their own personal blog.
  • Voting members can have a guestbook and personal contact form associated with their profiles.
  • Voting members can add events to the event calendar.

There is also a yearly member appreciation event and of course being able to cast a vote to help steer the organizational direction of RGC as a whole. It is our voting members that drive the direction and purpose of RGC.
